Visit to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Library [TG4v/LSHTM]

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is renowned for its research, postgraduate studies and continuing education in public and global health. LSHTM has an international presence and collaborative ethos, and is uniquely placed to help shape health policy and translate research findings into tangible impact. It has 3,000 staff conducting research in over 100 countries, and more than 4,000 students — all working with a collective purpose to improve health worldwide. Founded in 1899 at the London Docks, LSHTM is now based in Bloomsbury, where it has two main sites at Keppel Street and Tavistock Place, and additional sites in The Gambia and Uganda.

The primary role of Library, Archive & Open Research Services (LAORS) is to support LSHTM in its mission to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide, working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice. LAORS seeks to provide excellent information-related services, resources and support to LSHTM’s staff and students, and to contribute to a creative and supportive working environment in line with LSHTM’s values. LAORS also welcomes external researchers and visitors who wish to consult its specialist collections.

This visit will begin with a brief overview of Library, Archive & Open Research Services at LSHTM, followed by a tour of the Keppel Street building focusing on the history of the organisation and the building itself. There will also be a chance to explore some of the rare books and archives held in the collections.

Bookings for visits are open to members of the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries only.

If subsequent to booking a place on a cpd25 visit you find that you are unable to attend, we ask that you let us know this as soon as possible.

Visits are free of charge but cancellations received less than three working days before the event will be charged a £15 cancellation fee. In the event of a last minute cancellation or ‘no-show’ on the day, £25 will be charged.
