*THIS VISIT IS FULL AND A WAITING LIST IS AVAILABLE*

The Royal College of Physicians is a medical membership organisation and charity with a 500-year history. Today it maintains two libraries, the RCP Library and the Heritage Library, and this visit will take in both the historical and the contemporary. It will take in an introduction to RCP history and its museum, a chance to see the beautiful historical Dorchester library and treasures from the rare books collection, and an overview of services provided to historical researchers, introduced by rare books librarian Katie Birkwood. Systems librarian Karen Richardson will then introduce the contemporary library services provided in person and remotely to RCP fellows, members and students around the globe. The visit will end with a chance to view the current RCP exhibition ‘Healing Words’, a display of manuscript recipe books revealing the unofficial story of medical practice in England from 1500 to 1800.

Accessibility: Building has step-free access to all areas via various lifts, and an accessible toilet. Assistance dogs are welcome. Large print exhibition captions are available on the gallery.
