Morning 10.15 – 13.00: How students learn Afternoon 1.45 – 4.30: Group teaching

These two sessions are aimed at: – Those new to teaching and the support of learning – The more experienced who would like to review their practice. Either or both sessions may be attended; it is strongly recommended that those new to theory include the morning session. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided at the start of both sessions. Those who attend both sessions will also receive lunch as part of the price.
AM – How students/adults learn – Experiential learning – The learning cycle – Learning approaches and styles – Situated learning – implications for face-to-face and e-learning – Formulating learning objectives and outcomes By the end of the session participants will be able to apply an understanding of learning theories to their approaches to teaching choose appropriate teaching activities to suit different learning styles produce achievable learning objectives and outcomes
PM – Group teaching – Characteristics of groups – Considerations for small and large groups – Considerations for one-off-teaching sessions – Strategies for engaging and interacting with learners – Face-to-face and e-learning groups By the end of the session participants will be able to: choose appropriate assessment criteria for long and short courses apply appropriate teaching strategies to suit group size and needs of students utilise their understanding of learning to develop effective teaching events.
Booking Information: Cost for individual sessions is £40 for CPD25 members, £55 for M25 affiliate members and £70 for other institutions, including refreshments.
The cost for both sessions is £60, £90 and £110, and includes lunch and refreshments. Please note that there are limited places available for this event. Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
