Directors’ Briefing: Plan S
Directors and Heads of Service (from both within and without the M25 Consortium) are invited to attend a Directors’ Briefing on Plan S. Directors should feel free to send a deputy if unable to attend themselves.
Launched in September 2018, Plan S aims to make full and immediate Open Access a reality. Plan S requires that, from 2020, scientific publications that result from research funded by public grants must be published in compliant Open Access journals or platforms.

1.30pm: Registration, coffee & networking
2pm: Welcome & introduction from the M25 Consortium. Michelle Wake (UCL Library Services)
2.05pm to 2.30pm: Robert Kiley (Interim cOAlition S Coordinator and Head of Open Research, Wellcome Trust) – Background to Plan S and updated guidance from cOAlition S following recent consultation.
2.30pm to 2.55pm: Professor Tony Kenyon (Professor of Nanoelectronic & Nanophotonic Materials, Faculty of Engineering Science, UCL) – Academic Perspective.
2.55pm to 3.20pm: Anna Vernon (Head of Licensing, Jisc Collections) – Update on Transformational Licensing Agreements.
3.20pm to 3.40pm: Coffee break
3.40pm to 4.05pm: Dr Paul Ayris (Pro-Vice-Provost, UCL Library Services) – Implications for Library Services
4.05pm to 4.30pm: Q&A panel with all speakers
Cost:
- M25 Members receive one free Directors’ Briefing place per institution per year. Additional places cost £75
- Non-M25 members £112.50
Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee.
In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
