Profile – Judy Barnett
Judy Barnett has been committed to supporting the learning and development of others throughout her working life. She began her career as a teacher of English and Drama in an Essex comprehensive for 2 years, where she began to appreciate that variety in approaches to teaching and learning was the key to success. Her 10 years spent teaching English as a Foreign Language, both in London and overseas, enabled her to broaden her range of approaches, and to better understand the complexities and challenges of cross-cultural communication.
She then moved from a people development role in local government to setting up the training and development function at a new university. In 2002 she took over as manager of the Staff Development Unit at a research-intensive London university, where she has been responsible for provision of a wide range of leadership and people development initiatives for academic, administrative and research staff.
Her internal and external consultancy work throughout this time have focused on leadership development, team-building and one-to-one support through coaching, mentoring and action-learning set facilitation.
She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD) and a registered practitioner of the Myers Briggs Types Indicator. She gained the ILM level 5 Diploma in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring in 2005.
