Visit to Royal Holloway [TG2v/Royal Holloway]
The Emily Wilding Davison building was opened in September 2017 and accommodates several services, including the Library, Archives, Art Store, and an Exhibitions Space. The Library space offers a variety of study seats, with different zones for silent and collaborative work, dedicated PGR space and a Study Terrace. The Archives and Special Collections at Royal Holloway contain some of the earliest records of Bedford and Royal Holloway Colleges from the 19th century to the present day, relating to the history of Higher Education for women, personal papers of prominent individuals, as well as collections relating to theatre history. There will be the opportunity to explore highlights from the Art and Archive Collections in our Archive Reading Room, including insights from recent research projects that reveal more about the history of Bedford College and the adventuring spirit of its founder and early female students. Visitors will also explore the Founders Reading Room, which is part of the original library, located within the Founders building and available to students 24/7.
The Exhibition Space at Royal Holloway is a contemporary gallery space displaying art, research and contemporary practice from within Royal Holloway and beyond. The Exhibition Space has hosted a variety of displays ranging from social history, immersive digital installations and fine art exhibitions.
Visitors will have the chance to explore the Picture Gallery collections. Our stunning Grade 1 listed Picture Gallery houses the Thomas Holloway collection of Victorian paintings, which includes world-class paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and watercolours including works by William Powell Frith, John Everett Millais and Edward Burne-Jones.
A link to the location of the library building can be found here. If visitors arrive by train, then it is a 25-minute walk to the campus, or a 5-minute taxi journey. There are also regular buses from Egham to Royal Holloway, including a shuttle bus service from and to Egham Station.
