This workshop is part of the cpd25 Aspects programme, aimed at library staff looking to acquire additional skills and knowledge or staff working towards Chartership.

Librarians up and down the country share similar interests and often face similar challenges in their work. But how do we ensure we share our expertise and experiences to benefit others? Some of us are members of local or national groups, but often this is limited to our immediate areas of work. How can we find out more about the issues librarians are grappling with, and how can we learn from colleagues to improve our own practice?

In this event, we will introduce speakers who have developed innovative ways to build that community of librarians, to give them a voice and share what they know with others. After this event, you might have thought of new ways to communicate your expertise.

Speakers:

Ka-Ming Pang, University of Roehampton

Ka-Ming Pang has facilitated and organised numerous events related to personal and professional developments in libraries and will share her experience and advice for making the most out of working in libraries.

Ka-Ming is an Academic Achievement Librarian at the University of Roehampton. She has almost a decade’s experience in the library sector, including in public, membership and HE libraries. She has a keen interest in fostering opportunities for personal and professional development, over the years, Ka-Ming has facilitated and co-organised a range of events over the years such as, #ukibchat,  HASlibcamp, Pi and Mash, libteachmeets and more

Gaby Koenig & David Bennett (#uklibchat)

#uklibchat is a monthly group chat for anyone who works in libraries or information services, and people are also welcome to participate if they are just interested in libraries too. People can participate at any point in their career from students through to experienced workers post retirement if they wish! Our aim is to create a platform where LIS people can interact with each other, share ideas and learn from each other. Gaby has worked in Public Libraries for 16 years in a variety of roles, and is based at Slough Borough Council. David has had a career in FE and HE libraries.  He currently manages the Promotions Team at University of Portsmouth Libraries.
