Aspiring to Leadership – A 3 day course [Ref: TG4/Aspire]
This 3 day course is aimed at managers with some experience who are looking to move into more senior roles and/or lead on specific projects.
Aspiring to leadership is uniquely placed because it is aimed at those working in the Library and Information profession as opposed to the many generic leadership programmes currently available.
As well as offering practical exercises and case studies, it will give delegates the opportunity to interact with current practitioners in the field who have a proven track record of successful leadership and are willing to share their varied experiences and further explore the specific theme for each day.
This year’s guest speakers will include:
- Caroline Lloyd, Director of Libraries & Curriculum Support, University of Westminster
- Sally Faith, Head of Library Frontline, Planning & Support Services, University of Sussex
- Matthew Lawson, Head of Library & Learning Enhancement, Deputy Director, Library & Student Support, Middlesex University
Overall Course objectives:
• To explore the difference between management and leadership
• To reflect on and further develop own leadership style
• To cultivate a strategic approach
• To develop leadership skills and confidence
• To create a development plan to maintain personal and professional development
Aspiring to Leadership will also provide delegates with the opportunity to network with colleagues at a similar point in their career path, during and after the course.
Directors who are considering succession planning may also want to nominate a member of their team to attend.
The course will be facilitated by Jackie Kernaghan, a freelance Development Consultant focusing on Leadership and Management development, and teaching on HR professional courses to post graduate level.
